Buccaneers’ Mike Evans protests Donald Trump by kneeling during anthem

] [/su_frame]Mike Evans became the latest NFL player to kneel during the national anthem, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver isn't doing it for the same reason as San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and many of his peers.

Evans said he the act prior to Sunday's 36-10 win against the Bears was a form of protest against Donald Trump becoming President-elect.

“If this happens, then America’s not right right now,” Evans told reporters after the game. “I said this a long time ago. When [Donald Trump] ran, I thought it was a joke, and the joke continues. I’m not a political person that much, but I got common sense. And I know when something’s not right.”

Evans said he had not informed the team of his plans, adding that he did not want his intentions to be misconstrued.

Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem in the preseason to protest police brutality and racial injustices. He said he did not vote in the election and that the outcome "didn't really matter" to him.

Evans had four catches for 66 yards on Sunday, giving him 811 yards on the season so far.
